Nice Mixer February 14, 2010 Norman H. Barthlow (TROY, MI, US) Very simular to the Kitchen-Aide mixer--which worked fine--'till the beaters kept falling out--I hope this will not have that problem--so far it looks good and works very well. Exceptional with mashed potatoes!
Great Upgrade! February 11, 2010 Amanda B (Illinois) I bought this at Sam's because it was only $14.99. I didn't really care about power or anything else, just price. My last mixer was a Proctor Silex that I have had for about 12 years. For the price, I wasn't really expecting much, but WOW!!!! What a great upgrade!! It's powerful, has a nice flat bottom so I can set it down on the counter, and the beaters are so thin (and don't have that darn post in the middle) that I didn't have to scrape tons of mashed potatoes out of them. I love to bake cakes and breads and I will have no problems whipping this little gem out for small jobs. I'm very happy with this purchase and I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
Fabulous mixer for serious bakers February 11, 2010 Kathryn Royster (Tennessee, USA) I bought this mixer when my 10-year-old Hamilton Beach died. I initially intended to buy a KitchenAid, but I couldn't get past the overwhelmingly negative reviews (on Amazon and other sites) of its durability. I've since learned that KitchenAid began outsourcing parts manufacturing to China several years ago, and the quality of its products has degraded significantly since then. Cuisinart, on the other hand, has held to its longtime quality standards and offers much better warranties (and for a better price!).
I've been using this mixer now for several months, mostly for large batches of heavy cookie dough, and I love, love, love it. It's really powerful, ingredients don't get hung up inside the beaters, and it creates a beautifully uniform mixture. Consumer Reports said you could replace a stand mixer with this model, and I believe it. It also does a great job with lighter work like creaming butter and whipping cream. I give it 4 stars out of 5 because it is a bit heavy, and it shudders as it works. If I have to use it for several minutes at a time, my arm gets a bit tired. I've found that it helps not to squeeze the handle tightly as I mix. And, as several other reviewers have pointed out, even speed 1 is very strong. That suits me perfectly, but it might not suit those who need a mixer primarily for lighter work (e.g., cake batters). I haven't had any trouble with stuff (even dry flour) flying out of the bowl, but I always start the mixer with the beaters deep in the ingredients.
Overall, I'm extremely pleased with the purchase and would highly recommend this mixer to any serious baker, especially one who works with heavy doughs.
Best ever! February 7, 2010 Kathy Crowder (Walnut Grove, CA) I have had a lot of hand mixers over my life and I would call myself a happy senior citizen now, but the Cuisinart HM-50BK hand mixer is the best ever! I really like the beaters. They don't have the center bar and it whips things up before you know it. It is very powerful, too. It whips up thick cookie dough with no problem.
If you are looking for a new hand mixer then this is it! Thank you.
Good mixer January 31, 2010 M. Sanders (New York, NY) My original mixer lasted about 15 years before smoking and burning out. This is a nice, mid-priced replacement and works very well. Just one thing I would change: the first speed is way too fast, and I can blend better (without over mixing) with a wooden spoon. Had I known this before purchasing, I would have chosen another. Cuisinart needs to slow the first speed in its next version.
