Amazon.com Review
KitchenAid's stand mixer is a substantial piece of equipment: 250 watts of mixing power make child's play of creaming butter, kneading dough, and whipping cream. The kid in you will appreciate how quick and easy it is to mix up a batch of cookie dough; the 4-1/2-quart bowl can hold up to 8 cups of flour, which translates into as many as 192 sweet treats.

This model comes with three attachments: a flat beater for making batter, meat loaf, and all textures in-between; a wire whip for egg whites, mayonnaise, and more air-infused creations; and a hook for mixing and kneading yeast doughs. All three are solid in construction and easily secured to the beater shaft with a simple twist; untwisting them is a bit trickier because the attachment stems are short and can be hard to grasp, especially if they get the least bit greasy. The bowl itself locks tight to the base.

Standing 14 inches high, jutting out a foot, and weighing more than a grown woman's bowling ball, this stand mixer isn't the sort of appliance you'll wipe down and put away. Better to find a square foot of free counter space for easy access; besides, this machine is as pretty as it is rugged--you'll want to show it off.

To complete the package, KitchenAid includes a spiral-bound guide with instructions, mixing tips, and 67 recipes, from crispy waffles to a caramel walnut banana torte. --Betsy Danheim

5 out of 5 stars Hallelujah, I finally have it!   March 13, 2010
Tracy L. Scharbach (Seattle, WA USA)
There isn't really much I could add to reviews about this. KitchenAid is legendary for its amazing stand mixers. It works smoothly and beautifully, is able for any tasks, and comes with a basic set of attachments that will enable the user to make almost anything. It was amazingly liberating to be able to cream butter while sifting the flour for a batch of cookies. I'd been using my cheap, poorly-made, hand mixer for so long, it was amazing just how much time I saved by having a mixer that actually works.

The classic isn't quite as powerful as the other series that KitchenAid has put out, but it works well for my needs. I'm not making heavy bread dough every single day or doing baking for a business, so it is certainly more than sufficient for me. If, however, you ARE doing some really heavy-duty baking, it might be better to seek out the Professional or Commercial series, instead, as the Classic's motor might not be able to withstand a professional level of use.

But for me, it is PERFECT and I love it so much!

5 out of 5 stars Nice Gift   March 11, 2010

I own this same mixer and love it. Purchased this one as a birthday gift for a daughter. I've owned mine for about four years and love it the most when making double batches of cookie dough, or using the dough hook to knead bread. A great mixer!!

5 out of 5 stars Kitchenaid Classic 4 1/2 Qt. Stand Mixer   March 1, 2010
K. A. Shinopoulos (Boston, MA USA)
I am very pleased with this product. Even though it was more than I wanted to spend, it seemed a bargain compared with spending $100 on another product that may or may not work. We have made a very sticky batter with this mixer, and it handled it fine. Other households in our extended family also have been happy with this product.

5 out of 5 stars We love this mixer   February 1, 2010
R. Shear (Fairfax, VA USA)
We have been completely satisfied with this mixer. We were initially concerned if the 4.5 quart would be big enough, but it has easily handled everything we have thrown at it. The bowl is very easy to clean.

5 out of 5 stars THE mixer of mixers   January 30, 2010
Keith M. Ohalloran (South-Central Kansas)
This really is THE mixer. My wife had been borrowing her mom's for Christmas baking, and has used it many times already.
